Spelt Pancakes
On December 14, 2023 by userSpelt pancakes are a wholesome and nutty alternative to traditional pancakes, thanks to the use of spelt flour. Here’s a simple recipe for making spelt pancakes:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup spelt flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoons melted butter or oil
- Optional: Vanilla extract or cinnamon for added flavor
Instructions:
- Combine Dry Ingredients:
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the spelt flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Prepare Wet Ingredients:
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, egg, and melted butter or oil. If you like, you can add a splash of vanilla extract or a sprinkle of cinnamon for extra flavor.
- Mix Batter:
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. It’s okay if there are a few lumps.
- Rest the Batter:
- Allow the batter to rest for about 5-10 minutes. This allows the flour to fully absorb the liquid, resulting in fluffier pancakes.
- Preheat the Griddle or Pan:
- Preheat a griddle or non-stick skillet over medium heat. If needed, lightly grease the surface with butter or cooking spray.
- Cook the Pancakes:
- Pour 1/4 cup of batter for each pancake onto the preheated griddle or pan. Cook until bubbles form on the surface and the edges start to set.
- Flip and Cook:
- Flip the pancakes and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, or until the other side is golden brown.
- Serve:
- Remove the pancakes from the griddle and keep them warm. Repeat with the remaining batter.
- Serve Warm:
- Serve the spelt pancakes warm with your favorite toppings, such as maple syrup, fresh fruit, or a dollop of yogurt.
Enjoy these spelt pancakes as a nutritious and tasty breakfast option. Spelt flour adds a nutty flavor and extra nutritional benefits to your morning meal!
