Ingredients:
- 1 cup yellow cornmeal
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 package (about 10-12) hot dogs
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Wooden skewers or popsicle sticks
Instructions:
- In a bowl, whisk together the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. The batter should be thick enough to coat the hot dogs.
- Pat the hot dogs dry with a paper towel. Insert wooden skewers or popsicle sticks into each hot dog, leaving enough exposed at one end for a handle.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or a large, deep pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Dip each hot dog into the batter, turning to coat evenly. Allow any excess batter to drip off.
- Carefully place the coated hot dogs into the hot oil, a few at a time, and fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes. Turn them occasionally for even cooking.
- Using tongs, remove the corn dogs from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.
- Repeat the process until all the corn dogs are fried.
- Let the corn dogs cool for a few minutes before serving. Serve with your favorite dipping sauces, such as ketchup or mustard.
