On December 10, 2023 by userIngredients:
- 12 ounces fresh or frozen cranberries
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- Zest of one orange (optional)
- 1-2 tablespoons orange juice (optional)
Instructions:
- Rinse the cranberries under cold water and remove any stems or debris.
- In a medium saucepan, combine the cranberries, sugar, and water.
- If using, add the orange zest to the saucepan. You can also add 1-2 tablespoons of orange juice for additional flavor.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a boil.
- Once it reaches a boil, reduce the heat to medium-low and let it simmer. Stir occasionally.
- Simmer for about 10-15 minutes or until the cranberries burst and the sauce thickens.
- Taste the cranberry sauce and adjust the sweetness according to your preference by adding more sugar if needed.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and let the cranberry sauce cool to room temperature. It will continue to thicken as it cools.
- Once cooled, transfer the cranberry sauce to a serving dish.
- Refrigerate for at least a couple of hours before serving. This allows the flavors to meld and the sauce to set.
Fresh cranberry sauce is a delightful addition to holiday meals, and its bright, tangy flavor complements a variety of dishes. Enjoy!
