Ingredients:
For the French Toast Base:
- 1 loaf of day-old cinnamon swirl bread or regular French bread, cut into cubes
- 6 large eggs
- 2 cups (480 ml) whole milk
- 1/2 cup (100 g) granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
For the Cinnamon Swirl:
- 1/2 cup (100 g) brown sugar, packed
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup (60 g) unsalted butter, melted
For the Cream Cheese Icing:
- 4 oz (113 g) cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup (60 g) powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and cinnamon for the swirl.
- In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
- Place half of the bread cubes in the prepared baking dish.
- Drizzle half of the melted butter over the bread cubes, then sprinkle half of the cinnamon sugar mixture.
- Add the remaining bread cubes, and repeat with the remaining melted butter and cinnamon sugar mixture.
- Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread cubes, pressing down slightly to ensure all the bread is coated. Let it sit for about 10-15 minutes to allow the bread to absorb the liquid.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the center is set.
- While the French toast bake is baking, prepare the cream cheese icing. In a bowl, whisk together the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Once the French toast bake is done, let it cool for a few minutes before drizzling the cream cheese icing over the top.
