Mulled Wine
On December 15, 2023 by userMulled wine is a warm and flavorful beverage that’s perfect for chilly weather or festive occasions. Here’s a basic recipe for making mulled wine:
Ingredients:
1 bottle of red wine (750 ml)
1/4 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
1 orange, sliced
8-10 whole cloves
2 cinnamon sticks
1 star anise
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (freshly grated, if possible)
Optional: 1/4 cup brandy or orange liqueur (such as Triple Sec)
Garnish: Orange slices, cinnamon sticks, and star anise for serving
Instructions:
Pour the red wine into a large saucepan over medium heat. Avoid boiling the wine to preserve its alcohol content and flavor.
Add the sugar to the wine and stir until it dissolves.
Add the orange slices, whole cloves, cinnamon sticks, star anise, and nutmeg to the pot. You can adjust the spice quantities based on your preference.
Optional: If you want to add a bit of extra kick, stir in the brandy or orange liqueur.
Heat the mulled wine mixture gently, allowing it to simmer for about 15-20 minutes. Make sure not to let it boil, as this can affect the flavor.
Taste the mulled wine and adjust the sweetness if needed. You can add more sugar if you prefer a sweeter drink.
Once the mulled wine is heated through and infused with the spices, remove it from the heat.
Strain the mulled wine to remove the solid spices and orange slices. You can use a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth for this.
Serve the mulled wine warm in mugs or heatproof glasses, garnished with additional orange slices, cinnamon sticks, or star anise.
Enjoy your delicious homemade mulled wine! Feel free to customize the recipe based on your taste preferences, and don’t be afraid to experiment with different spices and additional ingredients.
